Author Guidelines
Here are the comprehensive author guidelines for submitting a manuscript to the International Journal on Semantic Web and Information Systems (IJSWIS), which is published by IGI Global.
Because IJSWIS follows IGI Global’s strict scholarly standards, authors must adhere to these guidelines to ensure their manuscript passes the initial editorial desk review and moves on to peer review.
1. General Submission Criteria
Originality: Only strictly original submissions are accepted. The manuscript must not be previously published or currently under consideration by any other journal.
Revised Works: If your manuscript is an expansion of a previously published conference paper, it must contain at least 80% new material, with no more than 200 consecutive words repeated verbatim from the older work.
Double-Blind Review: All submissions undergo a rigorous double-anonymized peer review. You must ensure that your initial manuscript file contains no identifying author information (remove names, affiliations, and self-identifying citations).
2. Manuscript Formatting and Structure
Word Count: Journal articles should be a minimum of 5,000 words (typically falling between 5,000 and 7,000 words), excluding references.
Basic Formatting: Submit your document in a standard word processor format (.doc, .docx). Text should be 12-point font, single-spaced, and left-justified.
Titles: The main title must be no longer than 100 characters. If you use a subtitle, it must not exceed 50 characters. Titles must be written in Title Case.
Abstract: Include a concise abstract of 100–150 words. The abstract must be written in the third person and provide a clear overview of the research problem, methodology, and primary findings.
Keywords: Provide a list of relevant keywords to assist with indexing and searchability.
3. Visuals, Tables, and Data
Images/Figures: All figures must be submitted as high-resolution files (preferably .tif format) separate from the main text if requested by the submission system.
Permissions: It is the author’s strict responsibility to secure permissions for any third-party copyrighted images. If you are adapting an image, the caption must state: (Adapted from [Source]) and comply with the original copyright holder’s requirements.
Tables: Tables should be kept within the main document, cleanly formatted, and explicitly referenced within the text.
4. Citation and Style Guidelines
APA 7th Edition: IJSWIS strictly utilizes the American Psychological Association (APA) 7th Edition formatting for all citations, headings, and references.
Reference Rigor: Manuscripts must include a thorough literature review. IGI Global suggests including approximately 25–30 references to demonstrate appropriate academic rigor and grounding in existing Semantic Web literature.
In-Text Citations: Use standard APA parenthetical citations (Author, Year). Do not use square brackets or numbered reference systems.
5. Mandatory Declarations
At the end of your manuscript (before the references), you must include the following statements:
Competing Interests Statement: Disclose any conflicts of interest. If none exist, state: “The authors of this publication declare there are no competing interests.”
Funding Statement: Acknowledge all financial support. If no funding was received, state: “This research received no specific grant from any funding agency in the public, commercial, or not-for-profit sectors. Funding for this research was covered by the author(s) of the article.”
6. Open Access and Copyright Policies
Gold Open Access: As of 2022, IJSWIS operates as a 100% Gold Open Access journal.
Copyright: Authors retain full copyright of their work under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) license. Instead of transferring copyright to the publisher, authors sign an Author’s Warranty confirming the work’s originality.
Article Processing Charges (APC): Because the journal is Open Access, an APC (currently around $2,350 USD) applies only after the manuscript has successfully passed peer review and been officially accepted by the Editor-in-Chief. Funding resources, institutional Read and Publish initiatives, or waivers may apply depending on your affiliation.
